GWTA was born in July, 1987 at the GWRRA State Gathering in Leavenworth, Washington. A number of members got together and decided to form a new club based upon certain ideals which we still hold today. Chapter G, Lilac City Wings, Spokane, Washington was the first chapter to form in the new organization and that is the reason for the #1 in the middle of our original pennant flag. Our colors were red and white under GWRRA and have continued the same in GWTA.

Hoss and Rose Ann Hosler, the Chapter Directors under GWRRA continued as Chapter Directors in GWTA until 1993 when Ron Thacker took over. Terry and Peggy Burns, Margie and Rick Rigsby, Mike and Char Calahan, Dick and Jean Schmidt, Wally Youmans and Mary Grose followed by Larry and Cathy Stephenson have also been Chapter Directors.  The current Chapter Directors are Terry and Peggy Burns.

Our Chapter is represented at the state level by Ron and Janice Cook the east side Assistant State Directors, along with Linda Roberts who is the State Rally and Registration Chair.

Our major fund raiser each year is Motorcycle Awareness Day. It was founded in 1981 by Ray Zufall with the assistance of Ken and Jesse Lance. It has continued in its same basic form ever since that time and the 25th annual Motorcycle Awareness Day was held on May 13, 2006. Over the years, thousands of dollars have been donated to charities such as Ronald McDonald House, Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children, Walk in the Wild Zoo, Muscular Dystrophy Association and Make a Wish Foundation.

We also have an annual auction in February. Money from this fund raiser has been donated to various charities, including the Spokesman Review Christmas Fund, the Oklahoma Bombing fund and specific needy families during the Christmas holidays.

Through the years, the Lilac City Wings in Spokane have also had annual mall shows at Northtown Mall, Franklin Park Mall, University City Mall, WalMart in the Spokane Valley and Silver Lake Mall in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. This gives us an opportunity to publicly display our pride in our motorcycles, pass out flyers for Motorcycle Awareness Day and talk to prospective members.

The thing we like best about our chapter is that we have fun. In addition to rides after our meetings during the summer and participation in other chapter's functions and events.  We get together during the year for a Halloween party, a Christmas party, a Spud Feed, several potlucks and a progressive dinner. The unofficial motto of our group is "Ride to Eat, Eat to Ride". We have a very large purple banner that says this and it is displayed whenever we get together at camp outs such as State, Regional and National Rallies.

Join us for fun and fellowship on the second Sunday of each month,
8 AM at the Old Country Buffet on North Division in Spokane.
